Welcome to our section on English for Year 1

We are proud to be working with the Primary Officer of the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE) to create this repository of teaching opportunities.

The beautifully-illustrated PowerPoints will save you considerable preparation time, as the resources take children step by step through the teaching sequence from reading to writing. Each year group has three resources: fiction, non-fiction and poetry, with the same theme threaded through all three units of work. The monster theme is based on the fiction unit Rory and the Monstersitter by Rosie Reeve. Each resource can be used over several lessons. It is important that you adapt them to the needs of your class.
