Birds

Welcome to our "Birds" activity section on iChild.

Did you know that birds are related to dinosaurs? Over millions of years some dinosaurs in the theropod group (which included the T.rex) evolved, grew feathers and learnt to fly. Theropods went extinct after an asteroid strike millions of years ago, but the evolved bird species survived and over millions of years have adapted to new conditions, dangers and habitats.

Today problems such as climate change and habitat loss still threaten birds. Some species such as the Dodo and the Elephant Bird became extinct because of the arrival of humans. The future of birds is at risk but there's lots we all can do, like putting out feeders and nestboxes in our gardens and even if you don't have a garden you can take part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch and the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch in January each year.
